Making the tax code even more complex is not exactly the kind of "change" I want, but what the hell do I know. I'm sure John McCain will propose something far more sensible, but after all the years of opportunity George Bush and the Republicans had to finally do something useful about the tax code and didn't, it's hard to believe anyone will. Unless of course Libertarians win the White House and Congress and pigs start flying.

So, what do you think of the Bortz Tax? Some call it the "Fair Tax". However, that is a meaningless name, like saying a tax is "good" or (heaven forbid) "progressive". I bet every proponent of any tax plan thinks their tax is fair. Including the income tax in Sri Lanka that has at times exceeded 100%.
Yeah, no kidding. I'm not 100% familiar with all the details of the "Fair Tax," but in principle I've always been a fan of either a flat income tax or a national sales tax of some kind. The idea that the graduated income tax code we have now makes "the rich pay their fair share" is a total myth that ends up hurting middle-income America worse than it does the wealthiest Americans.
